Thinkware F800 Pro Review: Excellent Wi-Fi Dash Cam

In this Thinkware F800 Pro review, we will take a look at Thinkware’s latest flagship dashboard camera model. While other companies focus on image resolution, Thinkware has taken a different approach by introducing new advanced features. Still, the image quality is excellent. So, is Thinkware F800 Pro the right dash cam for you?

Below, you can find out more about:
– The unique features of Thinkware F800 Pro
– The cloud services and capabilities of Thinkware F800 Pro
– The video quality of Thinkware F800 Pro
– Whether to buy or not to buy Thinkware F800 Pro

Mounting Options
Unlike other dash cams, Thinkware F800 Pro does not have any built-in screen. This forces you to connect the unit to the smartphone app for installation and configuration. This may feel inconvenient, but not as bad as you think. Without a built-in screen, the unit can be more compact and easier to place. See also: Thinkware F800 Pro vs Blackvue DR750S.

However, note that Thinkware F800 Pro is not meant to be taken in and out regularly. The bundle includes an adhesive plate that attaches to your windscreen, and the unit slides into this plate. There is also a permanent connection kit if you prefer to route the power cabling to an internal connection. Or, you can use the adapter to power it with the cigarette lighter.

Once installed, you can adjust the camera up or down. However, you can’t rotate it left or right, so the position of the adhesive plate is essential for complete recording coverage. Make sure that both the front and the rear camera can capture the best field of view.

Features
Thinkware F800 Pro comes with a comprehensive list of advanced features. It has a built-in GPS for location tracking and G sensor for impact detection. The camera has a parking mode for detecting impacts and motions. However, the best features of Thinkware F800 Pro are the cloud services.

You can geofence an area so that you will be notified whenever your car leaves the area. You can also locate your vehicle via your smartphone. And Thinkware F800 Pro can send you a mobile notification whenever an impact or incident is detected. However, keep in mind that Thinkware F800 Pro requires a hotspot connection, so you may need to install one in your car in order to benefit from the cloud services.

Resolution and Image Quality
Thinkware F800 Pro has a subtle improvement over the predecessor in terms of image quality. This model is equipped with most recent model of Sony Exmor R CMOS. However, the maximum recording resolution is still capped at 1920 x 1080 pixels (Full HD) at 30 frames per second.

The recording bitrate is 10 Mbit/second. This is a reasonable bitrate for Full HD. The bundle includes a 32 GB microSD memory card for storage. Keep in mind that the front cam and the rear cam use equal amounts of storage. So, with the included memory card, you can get about 200 minutes of continuous recording before the unit loops.

Honestly, Thinkware F800 Pro is not a match for 4K-enabled dash cams in terms of image quality. It does not give as much detail. However, this unit’s compression is not overly aggressive, so the image quality is still very good. The images are sharp and detailed enough to identify number plates and other text. The contrast is also good.

- Ambarella A12 Chipset – Ability to record 1080p on both channels simultaneously - Sony STARVIS CMOS sensor – Excellent performance in low-light conditions

Conclusion
Thinkware F800 Pro is a great choice if you need a unit with front and rear cameras. The advanced features are awesome and very useful. Although it is not 4K-enabled, the image quality is good enough to identify plates and text.
